Chennai Super Kings seem to be on their way to complete disaster this season as they are knocking on the doors of elimination from the playoff race. The season started well with their opening match win against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, but since then, both teams have taken completely different routes. CSK ended at the bottom of the points table while MI is improving by leaps and bounds and has now turned into a strong playoff contender.
CSK is not having a good time, with batters not doing well.
Also, they have lost their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for an elbow injury. MS Dhoni has taken charge in the absence of Gaikwad, who stepped down as captain ahead of IPL 2024. But even if Dhoni is in charge, CSK’s chances for the playoffs now look grim. They have only won two of their nine games so far, and people are “discussing” their auction strategy.
Former Australian wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist thinks it’s time for CSK to start rebuilding for next season. He mentioned that Dhoni might need to step away from the team, saying he has nothing left to prove. “He’ll know what he wants to do, but for the future – maybe he doesn’t need to be there next year. I love you, MS. You are a champion, an icon, Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.
And as a good thing, Gilchrist feels CSK should keep both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin for at least one more season. “What a talent! Yes, he is getting older, but I still see a rockstar like Shane Warne called him back in the day. Let’s stick with him for one more time,” he added.
