Shubman Gill, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, is keeping his focus on winning and isn’t getting caught up in the chatter around the IPL 2025 season. They kicked off their campaign with a tough loss to the Punjab Kings in a high-scoring match, but then bounced back with a victory against the Mumbai Indians. Just recently, they clinched another win against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which has lifted them to fourth place in the points table.
After their win over RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Gill took to social media, posting, “Eyes on the game, not the noise.” It’s clear he’s all about the matches and not paying attention to distractions. He stepped into the captaincy role last season when Hardik Pandya moved back to the Mumbai Indians after leading the Titans to an incredible first championship win in 2022 and then finishing as runners-up the following year. Last season, unfortunately, wasn’t so great for GT as they ended up in eighth place. This year is all about starting fresh, especially since they had to rebuild the squad after last year’s mega auction.
When it comes to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Gill mentioned that the pitches here can be quite unpredictable. “It’s surprising every time we get to play here. Sometimes the pitch looks like it could easily allow for a score of 250, while other times it can be helpful for seamers right from the start,” he explained during a post-match interview.

There were a couple of missed catches during the game, one being Phil Salt’s drop, which didn’t really hurt them, but the second drop was a big one. Liam Livingstone got a second chance on just 9 runs and went on to score a half-century. Gill couldn’t hide his disappointment about those missed opportunities, but he emphasized the importance of moving forward. “Of course, it stings a little, but we always talk about bouncing back. If you make a mistake, you have to be ready to take the next chance that comes your way,” he said, reflecting on his team’s mindset.
In short, Gill is steering the team through ups and downs with a clear focus on improvement and keeping the spirit high in a fresh season.
