The Chennai Super Kings are going through a poor run again, having missed out on the playoffs for the second year running. Last year, it was just marginally that the team could not enter the playoffs, finishing fifth, and while this season has turned out to be a huge disappointment, it has put them at the bottom of the table with little hope of qualifying.
They began the season well against the Mumbai Indians but then soon started showing weakness. Their batting has been in trouble, especially in the middle order, with players like Hooda, Shankar, and Tripathi simply unable to get back into form. Putting so much weight on Dube and the others scoring runs soon began to feel like a gamble that wasn’t going to pay back. Dhoni’s having to come back, especially with the injury to Gaikwad, which one would think would have done the team a world of good, hasn’t made much difference. The super kings are very lowly ranked, having won merely two out of nine matches-and it’s sad.

Ajay Jadeja commented on how Chennai has been performing incompletely over the last two seasons. Contrastingly, he noted how emotionally exhilarating their win was in 2023 as opposed to the hard road they have to walk in 2024. Jadeja spoke his heart out on how the recent form has dwindled: “The last one was probably more emotional; don’t forget they won the year before that. Sometimes you get emotional, stick with the same players and hope for the best, but I think there was a decline coming. This year’s performance is tough to watch as a fan. I mean, I am a big Chennai Super Kings supporter, but I support the Mumbai Indians too. It would be unfair to not mention how Dhoni and Tendulkar have influenced the vision of our generation towards these two teams.”
He also went on to say how a lot of the team problems stem from not having made wise judgment calls with some player pickings during the auction. I’m very disappointed, really. They didn’t pick the kind of firepower that other teams have. Probably this is where it all began to go downhill. When things start to slip is when you’re guaranteed to lose games.
Ajay also noted that the Super Kings this year are actually going through something very strange; they do not have the usual stability they maintain. Yet this year has been different; owing to all their problems and being low on scoring power, they have had to make lots of changes. “I’ve been following Chennai for a very long time, and they usually always stick to their players, come what may. Remember some of the good times Shane Watson played through all his troubles right to the finals? This year, Conway has only played a handful of matches, and already Rachin is out. So this is basically new territory for them. I think it is just about the fact that everything was up in the air during the auction this time,” he finished.
