India’s tour of England is ending with one Test left and the series is neck and neck. England took the lead 1-0 in Leeds, India responded with a record win at Edgbaston, India narrowly missed the target at Lord’s and then drew in Manchester. Now India is looking to win the 5th Test which starts on Thursday at The Oval in London and draw the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy before they head back home.
While Indian batsmen like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have done well, Ajinkya Rahane feels the bowling unit has relied too much on a couple of bowlers due to lack of support from others.
India is playing good cricket; the batting unit has been great in the last 4 Tests. The bowling department is the worry for the Indian team. A few bowlers are performing well but not getting enough support. Apart from that we are playing good positive cricket which is good to see, Rahane said on his YouTube channel.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have taken 28 wickets between them in the series and have been India’s top bowlers. Others have not done much, Akash Deep took 10 wickets in Birmingham but just one at Lord’s. A groin injury then kept him out of the 4th Test and Anshul Kamboj had a quiet debut in Manchester.

Prasidh Krishna was benched after being expensive and taking 6 wickets in the first two Tests. Now India has to decide whether to play Bumrah or rest him as he has already played 3 matches as planned.
Rahane feels the short break between the 4th and 5th Tests will be tough for the fast bowlers.
“…it is really challenging when you have three-four day break after one Test match and then you’re going to play another match – recovery is really important. All the fast bowlers, I’m sure, they are aware about the recovery factor you know preparation wise I’m sure they are preparing themselves really well for the test match. I think next 2-3 days will be really crucial from recovery point of view. So I’m sure they will take care of their body and mind as well, he said.
