A phenomenal milestone is achieved in the ongoing WPL 2025. It was game 16 between the Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz on March 6, and Amelia Kerr was the one who stood out as the best for the first innings for Mumbai. UP Warriorz opened their innings, and although it was UP who batted first, it did not take the fortitude of Kerr’s bowling to unsettle them.
The star all-rounder bowled four complete overs giving away 38 runs and took five wickets in the process. With this, Kerr equaled the record of a world record. By the way, this was Kerr’s third 5-wicket haul in T20 cricket played worldwide, which made her only the third cricketer to have three 5-wicket hauls in the T20 format.
To date, only KY Chan from Hong Kong and Anisa Mohammed from the West Indies share the same feat with Kerr of having three five-wicket hauls in T20 cricket. The match between UP and MI saw UP bat first with opening innings comprising Grace Harris and Georgia Voll. Harris scored 28 runs while Voll stacked them with 55 runs. Deepti Sharma contributed another 27 runs, while Dinesh Vrinda scored 10 runs, putting UP Warriorz at 150 in their first innings.
Kerr has taken the most number of wickets going into this MI innings, with five to her name. Besides Hayley Matthews’ two wickets, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Parunika Sisodia accounted for another wicket each. With a target of 151 runs, the Mumbai Indian batsmen would expect Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver Brunt, and Harmanpreet Kaur to do the needful. Mumbai Indians were third in the standings before their meeting with UP because of three wins and two losses in five games played.
