Earlier this month, in India’s first game of the Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh, allrounder Axar Patel was on the brink of a famous hat-trick. But Rohit Sharma, the captain, did not catch a usual catch at first slip, therefore depriving his teammate of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
After missing the catch, Rohit later joked he might make up for it by taking Axar out for supper.
Rohit’s promise is as much kept as his cousin’s is.
ICC posted a video following India’s victory over Pakistan in Dubai last Sunday in which Axar stated, “It was a high-pressure game.” Since we have a six-day break and have qualified (for the semis), I would like to have dinner.
Axar claimed the wickets of Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in his first over of the Group A matchup against Bangladesh, which took place in the 9th over of the innings. Finally, new batsman Jaker Ali hit a thick outer edge to first slip, causing Rohit to miss the catch.
Stitching a big century stand with Towhid Hridoy before Jaker carried Bangladesh from 35/5 to 228-all out. From 10 overs, Axar bowled 2/43.
Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten hundred as India chased the target in 46.3 overs.
