BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal have shared their thoughts on the tragic stampede that happened after Royal Challengers Bengaluru‘s big win in IPL 2025. This sad event took place on Wednesday when the crowd got out of hand during the celebrations in Bengaluru.
Saikia made it clear that the BCCI wasn’t involved in planning the victory parade that followed RCB’s win over Punjab Kings in the final. He mentioned that once the IPL wraps up, the BCCI isn’t responsible for what teams do afterward. He suggested that better communication with local authorities could have prevented the disaster. “Once the IPL final is done, the BCCI has no say in what the franchise does. RCB didn’t need to inform us or ask for our permission. They should work closely with local law enforcement to ensure safety during events,” he said.
On his part, Dhumal explained that the governing council hadn’t been notified about any celebration plans in Bengaluru. He pointed out that even RCB officials weren’t aware of the large crowd gathering outside the stadium, which led to the stampede. He stressed that the state government needed to manage the crowd better. “We had no idea there was going to be a parade or who set it up. The RCB management was focused inside the stadium and only learned about the situation outside when we contacted them. I hope local authorities will take this seriously,” Dhumal added.
