BCCI is going to shake things up with its national selection committee. The representatives from South Zone and Central Zone might be out before the next season starts.
Ajit Agarkar will continue to head the All-India Selection Committee. We will see some new faces joining him before the international season begins.
What’s happening with the BCCI Selection Committee?
S. Sarath from South Zone is likely to go back to the junior selection committee. That means his spot on the senior panel will open up. There’s talk that Pragyan Ojha, the ex-India spinner and IPL champion, is a strong contender to take his place. Tinu Yohannan, the former Indian pacer, is also in the mix.
Subrata Banerjee from Central Zone is also expected to leave. Amay Khurasia, the former India batsman who played for Madhya Pradesh and has been involved in cricket administration and coaching, is a possible replacement.
Here’s a tidbit: RP Singh, the former Indian fast bowler and commentator, was considered for a selector’s job but he declined. He’s currently on the Cricket Advisory Committee which picks selectors for different levels of Indian cricket.
Big Paydays Ahead for Selectors
Right now, Ajit Agarkar makes ₹3 crore a year and the other four selectors make ₹90 lakh each. BCCI wants to close this gap and get some top former cricketers interested in being selectors. They are thinking of raising the selectors’ salaries to ₹1.5-1.75 crore.
The idea is to make the job more attractive and make sure the selectors are fully invested in the hard work of scouting and picking teams. They will discuss this in the upcoming meetings and we should hear an official announcement before the new international season starts.
BCCI Wants a ₹450 Crore Sponsorship Deal
Dream11 is ending its tenure as the lead sponsor due to the Online Gaming Bill. BCCI is on the lookout for a new sponsor. With the Asia Cup 2025 coming up and no new logo on the team jerseys yet, the board is looking for a ₹450 crore deal. This will be for 140 matches from 2025 to 2028 – home and away series and ICC and ACC events. BCCI wants ₹3.5 crore per bilateral match and ₹1.5 crore per global event match.
