Jasprit Bumrah was India’s top bowler in the third Test against England at Lord’s in London from July 10 to 14. He took 5 wickets for 74 in the first innings and 2 in the second.
He also got attention for his batting in the second innings. Coming in at No. 10 on July 14, during the second session, Bumrah faced 54 balls and scored 5. He kept the English bowlers at bay for almost two hours. He also kept India’s hopes alive by adding 35 runs in 22 overs for the 9th wicket with Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 61 not out from 181 balls.
Mohammad Kaif, former Indian batter, said that Bumrah was so tough to deal with that England’s Test captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Jofra Archer planned to injure him. Kaif said on his YouTube channel that England got annoyed with Bumrah and Jadeja’s partnership and planned to injure Bumrah by hitting him with many bouncers.
Reportedly, Stokes and Archer thought if they couldn’t get Bumrah out, they could at least hurt him before the fourth Test in Manchester.
Kaif said, “Stokes and Archer planned to bowl bouncers at Bumrah. The idea was, if he doesn’t get out, hit him on the finger or shoulder to injure him. This stays in the minds of bowlers to injure the main bowler, whom our batters find tough to bat against. This plan worked later to get him out.

Stokes got Bumrah out on the third ball of the 62nd over. Bumrah tried to hit a big shot against the all-rounder but didn’t connect well and was caught by substitute fielder Sam Cook.
After Bumrah’s exit, Mohammed Siraj added 23 runs for the 10th wicket with Jadeja in 13.2 overs but couldn’t help India reach the target of 193 in the fourth innings.
