West Indies coach Daren Sammy said officials admitted to making mistakes in the first Test in Barbados, ESPNcricinfo reports. This is before the second Test against Australia.
Sammy was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second day of the first Test. Australia won that match by 159 runs thanks to Josh Hazlewood’s 5-43. The fine was for comments Sammy made in the media session at the end of Day 2 where he spoke about one of the match officials, referencing several incidents that happened during the day.
Daren Sammy said, We spoke to the officials and they explained some things. They also acknowledged that mistakes were made. But that was in Barbados and we’re in Grenada now so we moving on. That’s according to ESPNcricinfo. He added, I didn’t want my players to attend that press conference because of the questions that would be asked. I stood by what I said.
Sammy accepted the charge and sanction from Javagal Srinath of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. On-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite laid the charge.

Sammy said he has no issues with umpire Adrian Holdstock and hopes for the best for him: I don’t hold grudges. I said what I saw and I was punished for it. I honestly wish Adrian the best and we are all human. I have no problem with the umpires and I hope he has a good game.
The home team lost all 10 wickets in the final session of Day 3 while chasing 301 to win a match that had a lot of twists. The second Test starts Thursday at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s.
