Embracing new talent for the Test squad selection ahead of the two-match Zimbabwe series in late May this year, the new 16-man squad has been announced by South Africa. Since the series is not a part of the World Test Championship, the coach Shukri Conrad says it would be a good opportunity to test players and introduce young talent.
Leading the team is 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who has established himself in the domestic circuit by scoring three centuries in only six first-class matches. Waiting for his really big break into Test cricket is Pretorius, who boasts of an average of 65.57.
Dewald Brevis has done well this season and also began to earn his terms of praise by the coach, counting 573 runs in 12 innings with two hundreds and two fifties at an average of 47.75. Conrad spoke of his development as a player in all formats of the game.
Other uncapped players joining Pretorius and Brevis based on their strong performances in the domestic circuit are Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf, and Prenelan Subrayen. Senokwane hit big runs, Yusuf was among the leading wicket-takers, and Subrayen performed splendidly with the ball.

Veteran stars like Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada are being rested while the key pacers are nursing injuries. Although Anrich Nortje is sidelined, he might be back for the T20I series. The pace department is at a pinch but will also call on Kwena Maphaka and Lungi Ngidi, who will be ably supported by Wiaan Mulder and the spin duo of Keshav Maharaj and Subrayen.
