Dwayne Bravo, the new mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), is aiming to bring a winning attitude to the team for the 2025 IPL season. He’s taking over from Gautam Gambhir, who was super liked by the fans. Bravo thinks passion is what will make KKR successful. He wants to keep building on last year’s championship by helping the players have fun playing together.
Gambhir did a lot for KKR, leading them to two IPL titles as captain and guiding them to a third win last year. But Bravo has plenty of experience as a player and mentor with different teams, including some under the Knight Riders brand, and even international teams.
Bravo, who won three IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings, said at an event that he wants to instill a winning spirit. He said his own stats speak for themselves, but now it’s about helping the next group of cricketers become champions. He also noted that most of the players from last year’s winning team are still around, so they already know what it takes to win. He wants the team to enjoy each other’s success.
He added that KKR is a respected team worldwide and that he’s glad to be part of the organization now. He said some of the KKR players used to be tough to play against. He also mentioned he’s captained some of them before and that joining KKR was an easy decision because he wants to continue their success and keep KKR famous.
Even though KKR’s main group of players is similar to last season, they’ve replaced their captain, Shreyas Iyer, with Ajinkya Rahane, who has more experience but isn’t as well-liked.
Chandrakant Pandit, the team’s head coach, will be there to guide Bravo. Some people are a little worried because Pandit is known for being strict, while Bravo is more relaxed.
But Pandit addressed those concerns at the event, saying that he’s watched Bravo for years and that he brings a lot to the team, not just in terms of strategy but also in building a winning environment. He added that there’s a lot to learn from Bravo and that he’s looking forward to working with him.
KKR will start their season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22.
