The ICC has decided that England and Wales will host the next three World Test Championship (WTC) finals.
The ICC is happy with how the finals have been in England and wants to keep it that way. In a press release, the ICC said that England will host the WTC final for 2027, 2029 and 2031. This was decided at the ICC AGM in Singapore. The exact locations for the next three finals haven’t been announced yet.
The press release stated that the decision to award the hosting rights to the ECB for 2027, 2029 and 2031 ICC World Test Championship Finals was based on their past success in hosting these events.
So far, there have been three WTC finals and all have been in England. The ICC was pleased with the recent final between South Africa and Australia at Lord’s where the outcome was uncertain till the last day. It was considered the best of the three finals.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wanted to host the WTC final and asked the ICC for the hosting rights for the next one. But the ICC’s decision means the final will remain in England which is a disappointment for the BCCI.

Before the 2025 WTC final between South Africa and Australia at Lord’s, Cummins suggested moving the WTC final out of England. He felt that the winners of the previous edition should be given the right to host the next final.
Based on Cummins’ idea, South Africa should have hosted the 2027 edition. But the ICC is firm on keeping the tournament in England.
