Farhan Ahmed, 17-year-old brother of England cricketer Rehan Ahmed, made history by becoming the first player to take a hat-trick for Nottinghamshire in T20 cricket. He bowled well and finished with 5 for 25 in the Vitality Blast match against Lancashire at Trent Bridge. Notts won by 4 wickets.
Farhan is a right-arm off-break bowler. At 15 he was named in England’s Under-19 World Cup squad and showed promise.
This wasn’t Farhan’s first time in the news. He was the youngest player to play first-class cricket for Notts. In his first match he took 7 wickets in an innings. Then he became the youngest player in England’s first-class history to take 10 wickets in a match.
He also played for England in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup and proved himself on the international youth stage.
Lancashire had already qualified for the next round and played without pressure in their last group game. Notts needed a win. Lancashire started well with Phil Salt and Keaton Jennings adding 38 runs but Liam Patterson-White broke that open. Farhan then stepped in and used the pitch to his advantage.

He got Chris Green out and then came back in the last over to take a hat-trick. On the 4th ball of the 20th over he got Luke Wood out, then Tom Aspinwall and then bowled Mitchell Stanley to complete the hat-trick. Lancashire were bowled out for 126.
Notts were chasing 127 and had a bad start losing 4 wickets in the first 3 overs mostly due to Tom Hartley. But Tom Moores who has been in great form rescued the team with 75 runs. He built an 81 run partnership with Lyndon James which got Notts back on track.
Moores and Daniel Sams then stayed calm and guided the team home after James. Moores was run out when the scores were level but the team won on the next ball against the pace attack.
