Jamie Smith, the 24-year-old English wicketkeeper-batter, hit a hundred off 80 balls against India at Edgbaston today. That’s the fastest hundred by an Englishman against India in Test cricket, beating Ben Duckett’s previous record of 88 balls.
In general it’s the third fastest hundred by an Englishman in Test cricket and Smith’s second in this format. He counter attacked and England scored 172 in the session, Smith and Harry Brook put on a great partnership.

Next is AB de Villiers of South Africa who got his hundred in 75 balls in the December 2010 Test in Centurion. Shahid Afridi of Pakistan got his hundred in 78 balls against India in Lahore in January 2006.

Brendon McCullum, the former New Zealand captain, holds the record for the fastest hundred in Test cricket. He got his hundred in 54 balls against Australia in his farewell Test in Christchurch in February 2016.
