Previously unleashed upon Sri Lanka cricket as Mr. Sachithra Senanayake, has been accused by the Hambantota High Court for attempting to lure yet another player into fixing of matches during the 2020 Lanka Premier League. The Attorney General’s Department thereafter stated that this is the first instance wherein a national level player has been charged under the new anti-corruption law in the country. Senanayake was arrested and later released on bail in 2023.
The 40-year-old played for Sri Lanka from 2012 to 2016, representing the nation in one Test, 49 One Day Internationals, and 24 Twenty20 Internationals, taking a total of 78 wickets. In addition, he became a member of the victorious T20 World Cup team of 2014. Local media reports state that Senanayake made advances to another national player, Tharindu Ratnayake, then with the Colombo Kings.

Also, it was stated that the cricketer Senanayake contacted two other LPL-involved cricketers from Dubai to persuade them to join in match-fixing.
