BCCI Banned Pandya from playing the next season’s first match and also fined him a hefty amount of 30 lakhs rupees, as per BCCI Hardik would not be able to play the first match of the next IPL 2025 season as he was convicted for maintaining the slower over rate for the entire reason. The decision came after the continuation of the slower over rate in the last LSG match on Friday.
Heavy fines for Mumbai Indian’s slower over-rates
Following their third slow over-rate offense of the season, the entire Mumbai Indians team faced financial penalties. Captain Hardik Pandya received the harshest punishment, a fine of Rs. 30 lakh and a one-match suspension.
The rest of the remaining playing XI team even the “impact player” Rohit Sharma fined Rs 12 lakh or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.
Why were they fined?
As per the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, players or teams that maintain lower over-rates for three consecutive times are fined for Rs 12 lakh or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever is low.
Upon following this code of conduct MI captain is charged with the offense and becomes the second player after Rishabh Pant to get fined and a further match suspension for over-rate offense. As the last match of this season for MI was played on Friday, the match suspension would follow in the first match of the Pandya next IPL 2025 As MI doesn’t have any more matches this year. So Next year, MI will need a new captain for their first game, even if they keep Hardik as captain for the whole tournament.
Pandya and the MI’s disastrous IPL 2024 season
Mumbai Indians had a disastrous IPL 2024 season even after five IPL title-winning and ended up on the last of the points table after the last match on Friday night after losing to LSG by 18 runs.
Pandya’s return to MI didn’t deliver what they were hoping for. His batting fell flat as he only scored 218 runs in 14 matches with a disappointing average of 18. Even the bowling stats are the same, he failed to make an impact the whole season and has only picked 11 wickets with a poor run rate of 10.75. As captain, he couldn’t turn the tide in favor of the five-time champions, who finished last with just four wins.
