Heinrich Klaasen will lead the Seattle Orcas again in Major League Cricket for the 2024 season, despite a tough 2024. Klaasen, who recently retired from international cricket, didn’t have his best IPL and will want to turn things around for the Orcas who finished last after being runners up in the MLC’s first season.
It’s an honor to lead the Seattle Orcas,” Klaasen said in the team’s statement. I’ve been following the MLC’s growth closely and I’m proud to be part of it. We have a great group of players, dedicated fans and big goals — I’m excited to help turn it around this season, he added.
Along with Klaasen, Harmeet Singh, an experienced local player, has been named vice-captain. Venugopal Rao, the Orcas’ GM for Cricket Operations, thinks he’ll be important for the team.
We’re thrilled to have Klaasie leading us, Rao said. He’s a natural leader who knows how to win. He’s proven himself in some of the toughest T20 leagues out there. His energy lifts everyone, especially the younger guys.
With Harmeet by his side, they have a strong leadership pair that mixes international experience with local knowhow which will really help the team.

The Orcas have also brought in players like David Warner, Sikandar Raza, Shimron Hetmyer and Fazalhaq Farooqi who all did well in last year’s T20 World Cup and domestic players like Aaron Jones, Jessy Singh, Shayan Jehangir and Steven Taylor. They hope to do better this time around.
The Orcas start their season against the defending champions, Washington Freedom, on June 14 at the Oakland Coliseum in California.
