India’s tour of Bangladesh is still up in the air. The two countries were supposed to play some limited overs matches but nothing is confirmed yet as the boards are talking.
Aminul Islam, the BCB president, said the BCCI is waiting to hear from the government. Bangladesh was supposed to host India for 3 ODIs and 3 T20s from August 17 but that seems unlikely given the current situation.
We are talking to the BCCI and the talks are going on. It’s not specific to August or September. We are figuring out how we can make the series happen. If we can’t do it now we will try for another time, Aminul told reporters on Monday.
In other news, the trial of student activist Abu Sayeed started today in Bangladesh. Sayeed’s death during an anti-government protest in 2024 sparked huge protests that led to the removal of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government.
Sayeed, 23, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, was shot by police on July 16, 2024, during a protest against the Hasina government. Videos and pictures of Sayeed getting shot went viral across the country.
Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal has accepted the charges against 30 people, including the former vice chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Hasibur Rashid, according to court officials.

Warrants have been issued for 26 of the accused. Four others—the university’s former proctor, two police officers and a leader from the now-defunct Awami League student group Chhatra League—are already in custody.
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam filed a report saying Sayeed’s murder was part of a planned crackdown ordered by the former prime minister and carried out by top police officials.
Bangladesh has been in turmoil since then and that’s why the Indian government is still hesitant to send their team.
