On August 25th, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced that the 5 year deal with Dream11 is done. Dream11 was the jersey sponsor of the Indian team but the deal ended early due to the new Online Gaming Bill.
The Indian team even played in the Asia Cup 2025 without a jersey sponsor. But after a bidding, Apollo Tyres is now the new jersey sponsor of the Indian team with a 3 year deal worth ₹579 crore. This post will talk about all the sponsors, how much they bid, how long they sponsored and the terms to become the Indian cricket jersey sponsor.
India Cricket Team Sponsors
Here’s a list of all the companies that have sponsored the Indian team from 1993 to 2025. Even after winning the World Cup in 1983, it took the Indian team 10 years to get its first sponsor.
1. ITC Limited (1993-01)
ITC Limited was the first sponsor of the Indian team from June 1993 to May 2001. It was the first big sponsorship deal for the Indian team, including the Wills brand and ITC Hotels. During those 9 years, ITC paid around ₹35 lakhs per Test match and ₹32 lakhs per One Day International (ODI), which was a lot back then. The sponsorship ended in 2001 because the Indian government made new rules about tobacco advertising, stopping tobacco companies from promoting their brands. Sahara then took over the sponsorship.
2. Sahara India (2001-13)
Sahara India Pariwar sponsored the Indian team from 2001 to 2013, the longest sponsorship in Indian cricket. The deal was renewed in 2010, earning the Indian cricket board about ₹3.34 crore per match. During Sahara’s time as sponsor, the Indian team had many wins, including the ICC Champions Trophy (2002), the ICC World Twenty20 Trophy (2007), the Asia Cup (2010), the ICC Cricket World Cup (2011), and the ICC Champions Trophy (2013). The sponsorship ended in 2013 due to issues between Sahara and BCCI and SEBI’s rules and money problems. Sahara also owned an IPL team, Pune Warriors India, from 2011 to 2013.
3. Star India (2014-17)
Star India sponsored the Indian team from January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2017. This ended Sahara’s 12 year sponsorship with the Indian team. The deal was ₹1.92 crore per bilateral international match and ₹61 lakh per ICC tournament match. Star India also broadcasted Indian cricket from July 2012 to March 2018. The sponsorship was for 3 years and wasn’t renewed after March 2017.
4. Oppo (2017-19)
Oppo Mobiles India sponsored the Indian cricket team from April 1, 2017 to about mid-2019. Their original contract was for 5 years, ending on March 31, 2022. The deal was worth ₹1,079 crore (about $162 million) for 5 years, one of the biggest in Indian cricket back then. Oppo paid around ₹4.61 crore per bilateral match and around ₹1.51 crore per match in ICC tournaments. The contract had 14 home series and 20 overseas series. Despite the 5 year contract, Oppo left the sponsorship in 2019, feeling the deal was too expensive and not worth it.
5. Byju’s (2019-23)
Byju’s sponsored the Indian cricket team from September 5, 2019 to March 31, 2023. They took over the rights from Oppo who had signed a 5 year deal from 2017 to 2022 but left early. Byju’s agreed to finish Oppo’s contract, paying around $55 million (about ₹440 crore). Byju’s paid around ₹4.61 crore per bilateral match and ₹1.51 crore per match in ICC matches. They extended the deal by 18 months after the original term ended in March 2022 but had trouble paying BCCI so they left by March 2023.
6. Dream 11 (2023-25)
From 2023 to 2025, Dream11 was the main sponsor of the Indian cricket team. The big fantasy sports platform signed a 3 year deal with BCCI for about ₹358 crore for 158 matches. This made Dream11 the main brand on the front of Team India’s jersey, replacing Byju’s. But in 2025, BCCI ended the Dream11 sponsorship early because of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 which stopped real-money gaming and related advertising in India.
7. Apollo Tyres (2025 – Present)
Apollo Tyres, a leading tyre maker in India, is now the official Indian cricket team jersey sponsor with a ₹579 crore deal till 2027. Known for its global presence and past work with European football clubs, Apollo Tyres is now in cricket sponsorship. They will get visibility during international matches and with Indian and global fans.
