The BCCI has issued the head coach of Gujarat Titans Ashish Nehra with a fine of 25% of his match fees for breaking the IPL code of conduct during his team’s win against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. The fine was in addition to one demerit point given to Nehra.
According to the statement of affairs issued by the IPL, Nehra has admitted to a Level 1 offense under Article 2.20, going against the spirit of the game, and accepted the Match Referee’s decision. The statement further said that for breaches Level 1, the Match Referee’s decision is final.
However, the statement didn’t say what exactly Nehra’s transgression was but stated that he was very agitated during the match, which witnessed a couple of rain delays. He also animatedly discussed things with the umpires. Rain interfered for the first time while GT was chasing 156, and there were words between umpire and captain Shubman Gill as well. They saw through to the completion of the Powerplay, at which point they went off the field again.
After the resumption of play, GT was 107 for 2 after 14 overs; needing 49 runs to win but found their rhythm and wickets started falling quickly. After the 18th over, another rain break came. The revised target was now 147 in 19 overs per DLS rules. This was Mumbai’s first loss after six matches.
