The retention lists of all ten franchises have been revealed, and now the fans are eagerly anticipating the mini-auctions for IPL 2026, which are scheduled for December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Out of 173 players, 49 are international players, and all of them have been retained. ₹237.55 crores will be the combined auction amount for a total of 77 player slots.
Among the franchises, there have been some interesting retentions and releases, and definitely not the internet’s silence since the list got out. To the contrary, some stars will not likely return to the league owing to their growing age and the fact that they are no longer the center of interest.
This article, therefore, is going to inform you about the players who will not reappear for the IPL 2026 mini-auction after being released by the teams.
Players Who Might Not Register for The IPL 2026 Auction
1. Faf Du Plessis
Faf du Plessis, one of the leading run-makers of the IPL, is not expected to return for the IPL 2026 mini-auction because of his age and also due to the fact that there are no other franchises interested in him.
Du Plessis is currently 41 years and he experienced a drastic dip in his form while playing for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. The right-handed batter could only manage to score 202 runs in nine games and that too at a strike rate of 123.92.
Moreover, he would have wanted any interest from the teams, but instead, he was only picked up for 2 crores during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
2. Mohit Sharma
One more DC player who is not expected to come back for the IPL 2026 mega-auction is Mohit Sharma. The 37-year-old has not been able to shine in the paid league and had a poor season this year.
Mohit was given a second chance in the league by the Gujarat Titans and experienced a second-time career rise. Nevertheless, his team switch to DC was unsuccessful, and now it is hard to say whether the ex-CSK star will get an offer next year. Thus, Mohit may not enter the auction again.
3. Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali has called it quits for his international cricket career, and this was the case for only a handful of IPL players among the full cricketing world who have done so. The ex-England player is 38, and his chances of a continuation in the lucrative league are slim.
Rather, it is possible that like Kane Williamson, Ali will also be taken by a team as a coach for the next season.
4. Josh Inglis
Josh Inglis was the one of the most surprising names to be unretained for IPL 2026, notwithstanding a good performance for the Punjab Kings in the previous season. However, PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting said that personal issues are the reason for Inglis not being available for IPL 2026, and that is why holding him would not be a choice.
As a result, it is likely that Josh Inglis may not even place his name for IPL 2026 auction.
