After a hard fought 5 Test series against England, Team India has reasons to be proud after the series ended 2-2. They had to fight back after England took a 2-1 lead after the Lord’s loss. The Indian team led by Shubman Gill drew the game in Manchester and then won the Kennington Oval game to level the series.
One of the notable points from the series was the performance of India’s number three batsmen. Despite over 7000 runs being scored in the series – only the second time in Test cricket history – the batsmen in this position struggled. Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair took turns to bat at this position but together they averaged 241 runs, a clear weakness in the batting order.
Irfan Pathan shared his views on the players on his YouTube channel. He gave Karun Nair a 4 out of 10. Pathan said Nair didn’t play badly in the series. He got good starts but only made one half century. There were opportunities, he was given another chance but didn’t take it. He had a chance to win the Lord’s Test for India but couldn’t.
Pathan seemed to prefer Sudharsan who he thinks showed promise in the series. While not saying it directly, Pathan seemed to suggest that Sudharsan should continue to bat at number three for India’s next home Test series against West Indies in October. Pathan said Sudharsan gets out to good balls and he is working on his weakness on the leg side which Ben Stokes had exploited.

“Sai Sudharsan gets a 5 out of 10, Pathan said. He looks like a player with a lot of potential with some work. He could have played better with the chances he got but just couldn’t. Still I think things might have been different if he had played all the matches because it’s not easy coming in and out of the team. ”Pathan also rated Bumrah, 6 out of 10. He said as a senior player he has to help the team win but India didn’t win in the three Tests he played. Pathan added, Bumrah gets 6 out of 10 because when you’re a senior player you have to help win matches. He played 3 Tests and India didn’t win any.
Team India will next be seen in action in the Month of September when they will take on the challenge to win the Asia Cup The tournament is set to have top teams like Pakistan,Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal with Suryakumar Yadav set to lead Men in Blue.
