When Shubman Gill stepped up for the toss before his IPL match with the Gujarat Titans against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens, he probably didn’t expect to be bombarded with questions about his personal life—especially marriage. But that’s exactly what happened! Commentator Danny Morrison kicked things off with a compliment that made Shubman blush, saying, “Look at you! You look lovely! So, what’s the deal? No wedding bells yet? Are you getting married soon?” To that, Shubman quickly set the record straight, replying, “Nope, nothing of that sort!”
On the field, though, it was a different story. The 25-year-old opener played a fantastic innings against his old team, racking up an impressive 90 runs off just 55 balls, helping his team set a solid total of 198 for three. His innings were filled with some great shots—he hit 10 fours and three sixes, showcasing his batting skills. With this performance, he’s now scored a total of 305 runs in eight matches this season, averaging about 43.57 with a strike rate of 153.27.
After the match, Shubman reflected on the game during the presentation. He mentioned, “Good teams know how to finish strong. It’s tough to play a perfect game in this format. Maybe I could’ve added 10 more runs if I had batted longer, but in the end, it’s all about finding ways to win the game, and that’s something we’re doing well.”
His opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, also had a good day at the crease, scoring a half-century of 52 runs from 36 balls, making him the leading run-scorer of the season so far. Jos Buttler supported the effort with an unbeaten 41 runs off 23 balls, contributing to their total.
In response, the Kolkata team managed 159 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, with their captain Ajinkya Rahane scoring a half-century. Besides Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27 not out) and Andre Russell (21) were the only other players to score over 20 runs for KKR.
This loss marked the fifth for KKR in this season’s eight matches. Currently, they sit at seventh place on the IPL points table with just six points. On the flip side, the Gujarat Titans are enjoying a great season so far, comfortably heading the table with six wins and two losses, bringing their total to 12 points along with an impressive net run rate of 1.104.
