Australian fans might get to see Sir James Anderson bowl in the Big Bash League this summer. The 43-year-old England bowler, who holds the record for most Test wickets, has put his name in for the BBL draft and could become the oldest overseas player in the league.
Anderson is one of over 600 international players nominated for the BBL and WBBL drafts. He’s in good company with other stars like England’s Jofra Archer, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi, and Sam Curran.

Getting into the BBL is exciting but Anderson has had some setbacks lately, going unsold in the recent IPL mega auction and also in The Hundred. He’s taking a risk with his career by putting his name in the BBL draft.
The full list of nominees is available on the Big Bash app, includes players like England’s Zak Crawley and Liam Livingstone, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson. New Zealand’s Ish Sodhi is available for the full season and finals.
Anderson’s decision to enter the BBL is interesting. After stepping away from Test cricket last year, he’s looking to make a comeback in T20 format, even though he hasn’t played it regularly in over 10 years. He recently took 10 wickets in just 4 T20 Blast matches for Lancashire this season.

If he gets picked, he’ll be the second oldest player in BBL history, after Brad Hogg. When the league starts, he’ll be 43 years and 4 months old. Watch the draft live at 4 PM AEST and 11:30 AM IST on Thursday.
