Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians‘ star fast bowler, is back at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He’s trying to get the green light to play in the next IPL season for MI. Cricbuzz says this is his second trip in about a week, and this time it’ll determine how much of the season he can play. He’s already missing the first few games because of his back.
The report says he felt some pain when bowling during his last visit, so the NCA folks suggested some exercises and told him to come back later. This time, they seem more positive about his recovery.
If he feels good bowling without pain, he might be cleared for the IPL. Still, the report suggests most people think Bumrah needs at least another week to get ready for a game.
Bumrah is just starting to get back in shape, said MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene at a recent press conference. We have to see what they say about him. Right now, things look good. But it changes every day. He’s in a good mood. Not having him is tough. He’s one of the best bowlers and has been great for us for years.
We’ll have to wait or give someone else a chance to step up. That’s how I see it. It lets us try some different things and see what works. The start of the season lets us do that, Jayawardene added.
MI has New Zealand’s Trent Boult, India’s Deepak Chahar, England’s Reece Topley, and South Africa’s Corbin Bosch (who is filling in for the injured Lizaad Williams) as their other main fast bowlers. Plus, they have captain Hardik Pandya and some newer players like Arjun Tendulkar, Ashwani Kumar, Satyanarayana Raju, and Raj Angad Bawa.
MI starts their IPL 2025 season against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on Sunday.
