Mohammad Kaif, former Indian batsman, told Shubman Gill to stick to what works for him and not argue with England players for the rest of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. Kaif thinks Gill’s argument with Zak Crawley changed the Lord’s Test. He believes it fired up Ben Stokes which led to the 22 run defeat.
Just before the end of Day 3 of the Test, Gill was not happy with Crawley wasting time. With only a few minutes left in the day, the English opener was stopping his batting stance against Jasprit Bumrah. He also asked to stop batting and asked the physio after getting hit. Gill was finger-pointing and sarcastic clapping and even gestured to call for an ‘Impact Player’.
Kaif posted on X, saying Shubman Gill’s fight with Zak Crawley got England energized. Questions were raised after Edgbaston about their batting, bowling and captaincy. But that incident inspired Stokes and it’s best to stick to what suits you. Kaif thinks Gill will realize this the hard way.
Stokes took 5 wickets and bowled 40 overs. He was only recently declared fit to bowl. It’s not clear if the incident made Stokes bowl better but Stokes was not pleased with what happened.
Stokes said after the match that when you see your two openers out there for an over and you see 11 guys come at them, it brings out another side.

Jofra Archer said something similar and said it was a team effort. They decided as a team that they are sometimes too nice. They visit other places and some teams are not as nice to them so they tried to shift that. Archer is not sure if it gave them more energy in the field but they will keep it in mind for future.
England gave some of it back to India when Brydon Carse shouted at Akash Deep and Stokes clapped at KL Rahul when Akash Deep was trying to waste time at the end of Day 4. Though the Test ended peacefully this tension might continue for the rest of the series.
