Kane Williamson is in the news again after scoring another century in county cricket for Middlesex. This time, it was against Gloucestershire on the first day of the County Championship Division Two’s 11th round. The New Zealand star came in when his team was under pressure and showed yet again why he’s one of the best.
Williamson Shines on Rainy Day 1 in Cheltenham
Play in Cheltenham started late due to rain. Middlesex won the toss and decided to bat but didn’t have a great start. The second wicket fell just after lunch and they were 54/2 when Williamson came in.
Williamson partnered with Joshua De Caires who made 58 and together they added 63 for the third wicket. Williamson showed his class by getting to his 50 with a beautiful off-drive which got applause from everyone.
After that he became more aggressive and scored quicker. He got to his century just after tea off 104 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes. Captain Leus du Plooy provided good support as they added over 100 runs together before rain stopped play again.
This was Williamson’s second century in as many innings for Middlesex in his first season with the team. Last week he scored 114 against Northamptonshire in his debut. This was his 45th first-class century and sixth in county cricket. With the new World Test Championship coming up, his form in red-ball cricket is good news for New Zealand’s Test chances.
