The new chapter in Indian cricket begins on June 20 when Shubman Gill takes over as captain in place of Rohit Sharma. Even before the series starts, people are talking about renaming the trophy from Pataudi Trophy to Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Former captain Kapil Dev has weighed in on this. He called it a little strange but said in cricket anything can happen.
As Team India prepares for the five-Test series against England, there is a lot of chatter about the new name of the trophy. The Pataudi Trophy, which is named after Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi a player who played for both India and England is now at the centre of this debate. Some cricket legends aren’t too thrilled about the idea of changing the name. Kapil Dev speaking at an event: “It feels a little strange… like, does this really happen? But hey, it’s cricket. At the end of the day, it’s all the same on the field.”

With Shubman Gill taking over as captain, he’s going to lead India in the longest format of the game in challenging English conditions. Kapil Dev has told him to go out there and play freely: “There are no expectations. Just go, play, express yourself. That’s what matters.”
The first Test of the series will be at Headingley in Leeds and fans are waiting for some red-ball action on English soil.
