Bengaluru police arrested Nikhil Sosale, chief of marketing and revenue for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, at Kempegowda International Airport on Friday. Kiran Kumar and Sunil Mathew were arrested from DNA Entertainment Network following the horrific strike during celebrations of RCB’s victory wherein eleven fans died on Wednesday.
Due to the officials’ lack of action leading to the tragedy, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave the go-ahead for these arrests. The government decided to get directly involved due to public resentment over the incident. FIRs were registered against the officials for negligence during the disorderly celebrations that placed no importance on security guidelines.
Siddaramaiah had suspended more policemen, including Bengaluru’s Police Commissioner B Dayananda, for failure to maintain law and order on the occasion. On Thursday it was also announced that a retired high court judge, Justice Michael D’Cunha, would head the commission to inquire into the tragedy, giving them 30 days to submit their report. The Chief Minister said that they had also instructed the states’ police to arrest the culprits from RCB and DNA.
The incident shocked the country, with fans converging near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate RCB’s narrow victory over Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 Final. Tragically, all those fans lost their lives in the melee while players and officials were inside attending a ceremony.
