An up-and-coming league known as CKT20 is being organized by Cricket Kenya for the month of September, and it is indeed an exhilarating moment for cricket fans in the country. Long ago, Kenya was a name to reckon with in the world of cricket, even reaching the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup in the year 2003. The new league now inspires hopes of reviving that spirit.
CKT20 promises to be an overwhelming event of action for 25 days with six franchises allowed to field a minimum of five international players from any part of the world. Quite something! Cricket Kenya is in partnership with AOS Sport Tournament, a Dubai-India-based company that has signed an agreement to commit an astounding $2 million over five years to bring this league into being.

Kennedy Obuya, former Kenyan international cricketer, is really excited about what this league could mean for the future of cricket in Kenya. “This is huge. It will be exciting. It will be thrilling. It will turn around Kenya’s game for the better,” he said. Obuya went on to explain how the rules would work; during a match, only four foreign players can be on the field at one time, so the rest of the team will consist of local talent.
This season affords the necessary vacation funding boost with AOS having granted $300,000. The assistance is likely to increase every year from now on by at least $50,000, which means the funding may reach as high as $500,000 in 2029. According to current exchange rates, the funding will amount to about 255 million Kenyan Shilling in five years.

According to Chandra Prakash Panwar, president of the AOS Sport Tournament, this project could be a real launch pad for Kenyan cricket. Panwar noted that the CKT20 League presents an opportunity not just for Kenyan players but also for those with potential from among other fellow associate members of cricket from Africa. He was quick to add that this initiative falls in line with the vision enunciated by Indian PM Narendra Modi to support Kenya’s tourism and sporting endeavors.
