The Indian men’s and women’s teams visited Clarence House on Tuesday (July 15) to meet King Charles. This was a day after the men’s team lost by 22 runs at Lord’s. Shubman Gill and Harmanpreet Kaur, who captained their respective teams, were present.
The men’s team is 2-1 down in the five-match series after three matches that were very close. The women’s team won the five-match T20I series 3-2 against England, India’s first-ever Women’s T20I series win over England.
Gautam Gambhir and Amol Muzamdar, the head coaches, were also present at the meeting with King Charles. BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla introduced the Indian players to him and Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale was there too.
After the meeting, Gill told the media that King Charles sympathized with the team’s loss at Lord’s. He said Mohammed Siraj was unlucky.
Gill said, It was great to meet King Charles III. He was kind enough to invite us and we had some good chats. He said it was unfortunate how our last batter was out in the previous match, the ball rolling onto the stumps. We agreed it was a tough match that could have gone either way and we hope for better luck in the next games.
Shukla said King Charles spoke to each player individually and asked about Akash Deep’s sister’s health. The Indian pacer had recently shared that she is battling cancer and is undergoing treatment.

Shukla told ANI, It was an honour for King Charles III to invite the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams. The players were very happy to meet him. The King even asked about the book I gave him and inquired about Akash Deep’s sister’s health.
Shukla further said, We talked about the Lord’s test match and the King thought Mohammed Siraj was very unlucky, we could have won otherwise. The team has shown their fighting spirit and we hope we will win the series.
