India is all set to play a 5 match Test series against England with Shubman Gill as the captain. This is a new chapter for the team after the retirements of Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma. The team is a bit inexperienced and they will have tough matches in England.
There were doubts about Gill’s appointment as captain mainly due to his lack of experience in this role. But some former players and experts believe in him. With the first Test just around the corner, India’s star spinner Kuldeep Yadav has given his backing to Gill as captain. He said in a media chat that Gill is ready to lead.
Kuldeep pointed out that Gill has been learning from senior players especially Rohit Sharma and has had many discussions with him over the last year. He feels Gill is eager and proactive about leading the team. Kuldeep even compared Gill’s leadership style to past Indian captains saying he has the same qualities.

“Shubman knows how to lead a team. He has had a lot of guidance from senior players. In the last year he and Rohit bhai have discussed a lot about Tests and ODIs. I believe he has learned a lot and from what I see he is very motivated and plays an active role in encouraging the team. In the last few sessions I have seen he has the same qualities we have seen in past leaders,” said Kuldeep.
India hasn’t won a Test series in England since 2007 and the last series there was a 2-2 draw. So Gill and his team have a big task ahead and will have to bring their A game to beat Ben Stokes’ England.
