Liam Livingstone, the big-hitting all-rounder, is going to captain the Birmingham Phoenix Men. They picked him to lead the team for the 2025 Hundred tournament.
He’s taking over from Moeen Ali, the ex-England all-rounder, who’s decided to sit out this year as he retires from domestic games. Livingstone has scored the most runs for the Phoenix in the last four seasons. After a bad Champions Trophy, he’ll be hoping to get his white-ball game back on track.
Livingstone was also the ODI captain when Jos Buttler was not available in the West Indies last year. People see him as a senior player and a leader in the England team. He was picked by RCB for IPL 2025. He will also get to learn from top players like Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Rajat Patidar.
The Phoenix kept most of their main players from last season, including the New Zealand fast bowlers Tim Southee and Adam Milne. They also signed Trent Boult from overseas to complete the trio. With Moeen gone, the Phoenix signed Joe Clarke to open and keep wickets and Tom Helm is back on the team. The teams can pick a couple more players as wildcard picks at the end of May.
A few other men’s teams are also getting new captains for the upcoming Hundred tournament. The London Spirit chose Kane Williamson, the experienced player from New Zealand, as their captain after letting Dan Lawrence go. Lawrence was then picked up by the Northern Superchargers. The Trent Rockets, who won in 2022, still need a captain after Lewis Gregory left. He joined the Manchester Originals last week.
