The Lucknow Super Giants have not kicked off their IPL 2025 season the way they would have liked. There’s been quite a buzz on social media about their owner, Sanjiv Goenka, chatting with captain Rishabh Pant. This has led to lots of folks wondering if everything is alright within the team. Recently, there have been reports that a franchise official skipped the post-match presentation after their home loss to the Punjab Kings.
According to MyKhel, usually, when a team is the host, they send someone to represent them at the ceremony. But that didn’t happen this time, even though some officials, including Goenka, were spotted on the field right after the game on Tuesday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. An insider from LSG mentioned that there wasn’t any plan in place for them to send someone. “Mr. Goenka was on the field and there was no such arrangement at all,” the insider stated.
However, the same report added that Goenka’s name was listed among the guests for the presentation that ended up being called off. This has led another source to question why LSG didn’t send someone to represent the franchise.
Goenka has had a bit of a rocky relationship with controversy, especially during IPL 2024 when he was seen having a lively discussion with former captain KL Rahul following a harsh loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. This season, he has been spotted talking with Pant and head coach Justin Langer right in the open after matches as well.
So far, LSG has lost two out of their first three games in the 2025 IPL, which places them at the lower end of the points table. They had a good run in their first two seasons after debuting in 2022 by making it to the playoffs. Unfortunately, last year they missed out and decided to part ways with Rahul, only to bring in Pant for a whopping ₹27 crore during the big auction.
Looking ahead, LSG is gearing up to face the Mumbai Indians in their upcoming home match on Friday, and fans are hoping they can turn things around.
