Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary has expressed his opposition to the India-Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is scheduled to start in September.
This comes after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28, with the India-Pakistan match on September 14.
Talking to ANI, Tiwary said he doesn’t want the match to happen. He thinks the India-Pakistan match shouldn’t happen especially after the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor.
Group A has India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman while Group B has Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
Tiwary feels the India-Pakistan match shouldn’t happen given the situation. He told ANI that the situation is bad and he doesn’t see how people can think of an India-Pakistan match. He wants officials to rethink and the India-Pakistan match shouldn’t happen in this situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a strong warning to Pakistan in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He said if they act against India, they will get a befitting reply as Operation Sindoor is on.
On this Tiwary said since Operation Sindoor is on, planning a match against Pakistan doesn’t make sense. Tiwary asked how can people play a match with Pakistan when the Prime Minister is saying Operation Sindoor is still on.
The tournament starts with Afghanistan vs Hong Kong on September 9. India plays UAE on September 10 and then Pakistan on September 14. India’s last group stage match is against Oman on September 19. After the group stage the top two teams from each group will go to the Super 4. The final is on September 28.
