Australia has announced a 16-player squad for the forthcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies this July. Jake Fraser-McGurk has been dropped, with Mitch Owen named as his replacement. Fraser-McGurk had a fantastic Big Bash League this past season, including during the IPL 2025 auction, having been signed up by Punjab Kings.
Also missing from the squad are Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett. Stoinis had already, just prior to the Champions Trophy, retired from ODIs but remains available for T20s as these are still his preferred format. The selectors thought that despite his sterling IPL showing with Punjab, he has not shown enough to warrant selection this time.
Green has returned to the squad but will be restricted to his batting duties. The same can be said of captain Mitchell Marsh, who did not bowl in the IPL with the Lucknow Super Giants. Green opens with Tim David, with Owen joining the pair as a finisher.
Talking about those left out, the chief selector George Bailey said that there are a lot of T20s coming up and that they are focused on selecting the right team for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka. Bailey said that “we have got a big T20 schedule ahead of us with this series, then three against South Africa, and then New Zealand, then five matches at home to India. We’re putting together a squad we think will suit well for the World Cup. There are still quite a few of those players outside the squad who could very well be in the frame for these up coming series and through Big Bash.”
