The Punjab Kings, who have been led into the playoffs after 11 years by Shreyas Iyer, will play the first qualifier match against the RCB on Thursday, May 29, in IPL 2025. After the league stage, the team finished on the top of the points table, marking one of the first spots among the top four.
Former Australian batting great Matthew Hayden is of the view that Punjab Kings have enough firepower in the batting as well as the bowling department to beat RCB and seal their places in the finals directly. He wrote for the Times of India that Punjab Kings were “truly the best team” of this IPL season. He mentioned their good openers and a good bowling attack. He especially highlighted the leadership of Shreyas Iyer for bringing their success together.
Hayden stated, “Punjab comes into the playoffs not just alive, but confident. Their win over Delhi was impressive and showed that Shreyas Iyer’s men are on top. They have a powerful batting lineup, and the openers have been very effective. Looking at the match-up, it’s hard not to back Punjab. An experienced leader is a big plus for them.”
