Ever since he saw young Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi today among the IPL 2025 games, he has been impressed. While playing under the Rajasthan Royals for this season, Suryavanshi managed to strike the second-fastest hundred in IPL history and make record books. Hussey, former CSK opening batsman, said, though overall Suryavanshi’s style is risky, there’s nothing like enjoying a player like him while on a roll.
He compared Suryavanshi’s hitting skills directly with Adam Gilchrist, who is known for the aggressive batting at the opening. The whole Australian team would sit and watch Gilchrists play, Hussey recalled his old days. When Gilchrist was there, he would bat, everyone would watch. It’s just thrilling. I faced the same feeling as this young kid got a hundred in just over 30 balls, he said.
Hussey pointed out that it was even more amazing to see them both bat together. And there is sometimes recklessness in their play, but great to see, especially playing against such tough bowlers.
He thinks Suryavanshi still has much to learn, and Rajasthan Royals should really help in this process, especially Head Coach Rahul Dravid. Hussey added, His life has changed for good. He will keep on high for a while, and it is very important to have good people around him. He is lucky to have Rahul Dravid and some experienced to support him.
The Royals still remain in the contention to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2025 despite having lost seven matches in the group stage. Next on their schedule is a game against the strong Mumbai Indians at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 1.
