Michael Hussey, the batting coach for the Chennai Super Kings, recently shared his thoughts on the tough times the team is facing. He mentioned that both the players and the support crew are feeling the pain of their recent losses, and he knows that the fans must also be feeling heartbroken. He noted that these hard times reveal who the team’s true supporters are.
Chennai had another rough match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, marking their fifth loss in a row during IPL 2025. This disappointing performance came at a time when the legendary MS Dhoni had to step in as captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined with an injury for the rest of the season. In a post-match chat, Hussey didn’t hold back about the team’s struggles. He said, This one really stings. The players are down, the staff is down, and I can only imagine how our fans feel.”
Hussey also pointed out that despite the situation, they’re not ready to give up. “You only need to be in the race for that last playoff spot. In a long tournament like the IPL, it’s all about finding that winning rhythm,” he added. It’s worth noting that until now, Chennai had never lost three straight home games in any IPL season, but Hussey showed confidence in Dhoni and the team’s ability to turn things around, even in this unfamiliar situation.
In this recent match, Dhoni only managed to score one run off four balls before getting out in the sixteenth over. Hussey expressed trust in both Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming, saying, “I know Stephen is an excellent coach, and MS has been leading this team for a long time. Even with Ruturaj not playing, he’s still part of the squad.”
Hussey believes that their leaders will work hard to keep the group united and focused, especially with the criticism they know is coming from outside. “We’re going to take our share of the blame, and honestly, we deserve it,” he noted.
Looking ahead, the team’s next challenge is against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 14, where they’ll aim to break their losing streak and get back on track.
