A surprise return to Test cricket may just be in the cards for Kohli. Clarke, the skipper of Australia’s 2015 World Cup-winning side, says he believes if the current Indian captain and the selectors contacted Kohli, he would come back. Clarke also stated that if India is hit with a drubbing in the impending five-Test series against England, the fans may well be clamoring for Kohli’s return.
Clarke pointed on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast that if their beloved team were to get hammered, say 0-5, he could envisage fans really wanting to see Kohli grace the field again. He said that Kohli has a genuine love for Test cricket, which he witnessed during a recent interview after the IPL 2025 final.
Clarke also went on to point out that India may yet provide a good fight in England even without Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He acknowledged that Kohli sees Test cricket as the highest form of the game and that he is still able to play at that level. He respects the decision of Kohli, knowing well that players reach that phase in their career.
