Pakistan cricket has been having a rough patch lately. They’ve been on a losing streak, struggling to find any sort of rhythm in their games. Their performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 didn’t go too well, and following that, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made the decision to drop big names like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from the T20I squad. Unfortunately, this change didn’t turn things around for the team. They ended up losing both the T20I and ODI series during their tour of New Zealand, and honestly, things just seem to be getting worse for Pakistan cricket with each series that passes.
Mohammad Rizwan, who was the captain for the ODIs, faced some tough questions after the team got whitewashed by the Kiwis in the 50-over format. One of the questions centered around the decision to leave him and Babar out of the T20I setup. Rizwan responded candidly, clearly saying that he can’t comment on the performance of the T20 team or the selections because that’s not his call to make. He pointed out that the PCB selectors didn’t consult him or Babar before making the decision to drop them from the T20 side, underlining that it was all up to the selectors and the players have to accept it.
“I can’t say anything on behalf of the T20s because it’s not my job, and honestly, I don’t have a lot of control over it. They didn’t ask us before making their decisions about who to drop. At the end of the day, it’s their choice, and we respect that,” Rizwan said, showing a sense of professionalism in handling the situation.
Looking forward, both Rizwan and Babar are set to take the field again in the PSL 2025. Rizwan will be leading the Multan Sultans while Babar will captain Peshawar Zalmi. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform in the PSL after such a tough run with the national team, and hopefully, playing in the PSL will give them a chance to regain their form and confidence.
