The Asia Cup 2025 trophy drama is far from being over with India still without the physical silverware three days after the final. The controversy began with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interim Interior Minister and the PCB chief, forcibly taking the trophy after India had refused to accept the trophy from him.
According to a ZEE News report, Naqvi has now handed over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the UAE Cricket Board. This decision arose after tensions took a downward spiral between India’s cricket board, the BCCI, and Naqvi. Three main points had been brought up by India against Naqvi during a virtual ACC meeting on September 30, touching on his conduct at the trophy ceremony.
The trouble started at Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan, with India defeating Pakistan by five wickets. There was a lapse of an hour during the trophy ceremony because the Indian team refused to go onstage, with Naqvi insisting on presenting the trophy.

Only the individual award winners stepped forth, leaving the teams to ignore the trophy presentation. In frustration, Naqvi then took away the trophy and medal winners, and this sparked outrage in India.
BCCI accuses Mohsin Naqvi of mismanagement
In the ACC virtual meeting, Indian representatives Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar voiced their displeasure. They criticised Naqvi for not congratulating India and for taking the trophy away, calling his actions inappropriate
Reports were now suggesting that BCCI might lodge a complaint with the ICC, since the Asia Cup is an ICC-recognised tournament.
Following the meeting, the ACC apparently left the decision on the trophy’s custody to the five Test-playing nations: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. BCCI officials, however, have urged for the trophy to be kept at ACC headquarters in Dubai, from where, they say, the Indian team could collect it.
This was met with silence by Naqvi in the meeting, who simply stated that the Indian captain could collect the trophy and medals from Dubai, if they so wished.
