India’s optional practice at the Oval on Tuesday, July 29, before the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was marred by Gautam Gambhir’s argument with head groundsman Lee Fortis but there were some positives for the team.
Pant had fractured his foot on the first day of the Test at Old Trafford. He batted the next day but doctors have told him to rest. He recently posted pictures of his cast and a message to fans. Thanks for all the love and support, Pant wrote on Instagram. It’s been a big help. I’ll start rehab once my fracture heals and I get used to the process. I’m being patient, following the plan and giving it my all. Playing for India has always been my biggest honour. Can’t wait to get back to what I love.

Will N Jagadeesan play at the Oval?
Pant’s absence presents an opportunity for another wicketkeeper in the Indian team. Jagadeesan has a great First-Class record with 3373 runs at 47.50 and a 62.40 strike rate. But, it seems unlikely he’ll go straight into the team. Dhruv Jurel is ahead of him. He debuted for India against England at home and has been reliable behind the stumps when Pant has been out during the series.
