After Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down as the Test captain. Sri Lanka won the series 1-0.
“I am resigning as the Test captain. I don’t want to play Test cricket,” Shanto said in the post match press conference. “I want to send a clear message that my decision is not personal but for the team.”
Bangladesh’s batting in the 2nd Test was not as good as the 1st Test. After choosing to bat first, they couldn’t build partnerships and were bowled out for 247 on a batting friendly pitch. Despite Sri Lanka’s fielding errors, their bowlers kept the pressure.

Sri Lanka responded with a big batting display, led by Pathum Nissanka’s 158. Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis also played well, and Sri Lanka reached a total that gave them a 211 run lead.
That lead was crucial as Bangladesh struggled in their 2nd innings. Sri Lanka’s spinners, especially Prabath Jayasuriya with his 5 wicket haul, broke down the Bangladesh batting lineup.
