Nasser Hussain said that because England’s bowlers bowled the right lengths to the Indian batsmen on a pitch with pace, some verbals were expected. He felt if India’s captain Shubman Gill could sledge England, he should have expected some back.
Gill had experienced some of that when he batted late on the fourth day at Lord’s. His quick dismissal in the second innings meant he scored only 22 runs in the Lord’s Test, a comedown from his record-breaking batting in the first two Tests.
The pitch was quicker, with movement, and England bowled well, found the right length. And the England fielders were getting at him; if you sledge like you did last night, expect to get something back, Hussain said on Sky Sports.
He added Gill’s wicket was important because he scores fast and doesn’t go into his shell.
Gill had a big argument with Zak Crawley at the end of Day 3 and everyone thought there would be a lot of chat when he batted again.

Before the series started as captain, there were questions about Gill’s record in SENA countries. But he has surprised his critics by taking his red ball game to another level.
The Indian top order, led by Gill, did well after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the two big batsmen, retired.
Gill still leads the series in runs with 607 runs in three games with an average of 101.16. But his scores of 16 and 6 at Lord’s have raised questions about his mind.
Rishabh Pant, his deputy, is the second-highest run-scorer in the series. He has 416 runs in five innings, averaging 83.2. With India needing 135 runs to win with six wickets in hand, a lot will depend on Pant.
