According to the ICC website, Nathan Lyon wants to keep playing Test cricket. He’s really focused on helping his team win a second World Test Championship.
Lyon was big for Australia in their first World Test Championship win over India in 2023. He played when they lost to South Africa at Lord’s last month. The next World Test Championship final is two years away but Lyon isn’t thinking of retiring yet. He recently let Alex Carey lead Australia’s victory song. At 37, Lyon still has goals. He wants to win series in India and England and another World Test Championship is high on his list.
Lyon said, I’ve always said I want to win away in India. I want to win away in England, as per the ICC website.
He added, We’ll have that chance in a couple of years but we need to take it one Test at a time and do our best in the West Indies.
He also said, Then we have a big summer at home with the Ashes.
The veteran spinner said, Another World Test Championship Final would definitely be on my mind.

Lyon has 556 Test wickets. That puts him third for Australian bowlers, behind Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563). With two Tests in the West Indies this month and England later this year, Lyon could pass McGrath soon and get closer to Warne’s record in the next few months.
Lyon isn’t trying to become Australia’s highest wicket-taker. He wants to win Test matches for his team.
Lyon said, Warney’s a long way away.
He added, In my opinion, he’s the best to ever play. I’m just lucky to be part of a special cricket team right now. We’re working to become a great cricket team but we’re not there yet. Being part of this bowling attack and doing my part is special. That’s why I keep playing.
