Hashim Amla, the South African cricket legend, has named his three best batters and surprisingly, Sachin Tendulkar wasn’t on the list. Many fans consider Tendulkar the greatest but Amla chose three different players, with only one being Indian.
Amla is in England playing for South Africa Champions in the World Championship of Legends. The 42-year-old is playing under AB de Villiers’ leadership and scored 15 runs in 18 balls against the West Indies Legends.
When asked by Star Sports to name his three best batters for a hypothetical World XI, Amla skipped Tendulkar and chose Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Sir Vivian Richards.
Amla said he had many favourite players over the years. Growing up his top three were Brian Lara, Steve Waugh and Jacques Kallis (also from South Africa) but he’d also include Virat, AB and Sir Vivian Richards.
These three mix modern skill with old-school dominance. Kohli and de Villiers are Amla’s former teammates and Richards was one of the most feared batters of his time.
Amla who retired with 18,672 runs in 349 international matches is known for his calm and stylish batting. His opinion matters so leaving out Sachin Tendulkar who holds records in Tests and ODIs surprised many fans.
