MCA announced on Wednesday that Omkar Salvi will continue as the head coach of the senior team. Salvi had taken Mumbai to several titles quickly and MCA trusts his calm and effective leadership which has revived Mumbai cricket.
Salvi was appointed before the 2023-24 season and made an impact immediately. In his first year, Mumbai won its 42nd Ranji Trophy. Next season, the team reached the semis and won the Irani Cup after 27 years and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, showing consistency in all formats. Salvi is also the bowling coach of 2024 IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and is known for getting the best out of his players.
MCA president Ajinkya Naik said Salvi’s leadership and coaching over the last two seasons has been key to the team’s success and his ability to get the best out of his players has been great.
While Mumbai’s cricket structure remains the same, Deepak Jadhav has replaced Kiran Powar as a selector for the senior men’s and U-23 teams. Powar who has been instrumental in the last few years will be the head coach of the U-23 team which is important for growing Mumbai’s future players.

Sanjay Patil remains the chairman of the selection committee which now includes Ravi Thaker, Jitendra Thackeray, Vikrant Yelligati and Jadhav. MCA secretary Abhay Hadap said the people picked have knowledge, experience and a good understanding of the game which will help Mumbai cricket to continue its tradition of excellence.
For Mumbai cricket, keeping the same leadership and coaching is more than just a technical thing, it’s a promise to the values that have made one of India’s most famous cricket teams.
