Monty Panesar, the former England spinner, expects the Ashes to be just as good as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’s first tournament.
In a series full of emotions, drama and excitement, India and England gave it their all in the five Tests and ended up in a well deserved 2-2 draw. Many fans and former cricketers feel this series was even better than the 2005 Ashes. Panesar believes the upcoming match between England and Australia on November 21 will live up to the hype given the top two teams are playing each other.
Panesar told IANS, India won a known win. They played some great cricket. Yesterday when Joe Root and Harry Brook were batting it looked like it was out of their hands. This morning’s conditions were perfect for India with the seam positions and not taking the new ball was the right call. Siraj and Krishna were amazing with the old ball and Krishna’s length was a little fuller. It’s a known win and maybe the most interesting series since 2005 between England and Australia.
Ravichandran Ashwin, the former India frontline spinner, was one of many who felt the imperfect Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was better than the 2005 Ashes series.
Ashwin said on his YouTube channel that many are comparing this series to the 2005 Ashes but I think this series was a bit better than even the 2005 Ashes because there was so much more imperfection on both sides.
England lost two consecutive Ashes series at home and away under Nasser Hussain and then they came back in the 2005 Ashes to win the urn for the first time since 1986-87 with a 2-1 win.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy added a new dimension to the test series. This recognition raised the stakes and gave both teams more incentive to perform. The series was more than just a contest, it was a celebration of cricket’s rich heritage and the achievements of two of the game’s all time greats.Individuals played to their strengths and produced moments of magic that will be etched in memories for years to come. Joe Root and Harry Brook were the stars for England while Siraj and Krishna were the game changers for India. They helped their teams and gave the fans some great moments to cherish.

The comparison to the 2005 Ashes series adds to the importance of the India-England series. 2005 Ashes is remembered as one of the most exciting and closely contested series in cricket history. The fact that experts and fans feel this series was even better than that speaks volumes about the quality of cricket played.
Ashwin’s point about the series being shaped by imperfections is spot on. Cricket never sees perfection; errors and missed chances decide games. This unpredictability is what makes the game so engrossing and keeps us hooked till the end.
With the Ashes series between England and Australia around the corner, the India-England series has set the bar high. The Ashes should be exciting and close and both teams will want to win. People all over the world are hoping this rivalry adds another chapter to its rich vein of History
